Donate Vitamins and Supplements Instead of Destroying Them

Short dated, past date, overstock and discontinued vitamins and supplements placed with nonprofits that serve people in need.

Supplement brands destroy huge volumes of good product because of dates and packaging changes. Much of it can be donated legally.

  • Businesses pay a flat fee per pallet or per truckload. Nonprofits never pay.
  • Tax donation receipt from the 501(c)(3) for your deduction
  • Vetted recipients with signed no resale terms
  • Anything that cannot be donated is recycled or destroyed with a certificate

    Who Receives It

Health clinics, shelters and international relief programs regularly request vitamins.

    • Free and community health clinics
    • Shelters and family programs
    • Senior centers
    • Food banks that stock health items
    • International medical relief organizations

    Rules we follow

    • Sealed, unopened, original labels
    • Federal law does not require expiration dates on supplements, so past date stock can be donated when a recipient accepts it
    • No products with disease treatment claims or prescription ingredients
    • No recalled or adulterated product
    • Enhanced tax deduction requires FDA compliance for 180 days before donation, so past date product may qualify for the standard deduction only

    Can expired vitamins be donated?

Yes, in most cases. Under DSHEA, supplements are not required to carry an expiration date. A printed date is a manufacturer potency guarantee backed by stability testing, not a safety cutoff. Sealed product slightly past date is commonly accepted by health clinics and relief programs. We tell recipients the dates upfront.

    Tax treatment

For the enhanced deduction under IRC Section 170(e)(3), FDA regulated products must meet FDA requirements on the donation date and for the prior 180 days. Your CPA decides how to treat past date product. See our tax deduction guide.

    Product that cannot be donated

Recalled or adulterated supplements go to certified destruction through Wasteless Group with a Certificate of Destruction.

    Questions

    Can you donate expired vitamins?

Usually yes. Supplements are not required by federal law to carry expiration dates, so sealed past date stock can be donated where the recipient accepts it.

Do you take opened or damaged bottles?

No. Only sealed, unopened product with original labels.

Can we still take a tax deduction?

Generally yes, but past date product may only qualify for the standard deduction rather than the enhanced one. Confirm with your CPA.

    Have supplements approaching their date?

Send the details today for a flat quote, usually the same business day.
